Police Involved In Snow Hinton Park Shooting
Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office and University of Alabama police are investigating an officer involved shooting that happened Tuesday night at Snow Hinton Park.
On Tuesday, 9/18/18, Two officers approached a vehicle parked around 11:00 pm which is past the 10:00 pm closing time for the park. After contact with the two occupants in the car, officers suspected they were involved in illegal activity and called for backup. The passenger was removed from the vehicle and detained. As the initial officer was removing the driver and trying to handcuff him, he resisted, fled back to his vehicle and attempted to drive off while dragging the officer and passenger about 20 yards. He also hit the backup officer and a police vehicle while fleeing. The backup officer fired
his weapon at the vehicle as it was driving away.
The suspect, Demetrius Denzel Horton, 28, later turned himself in. He was charged with two counts of attempted murder, one count of second-degree assault, one count of third-degree escape and leaving the scene of an accident. He is being held in the Tuscaloosa County Jail with bond set at $156,000.
Both officers and the passenger were treated at DCH and released the next day, Wednesday, 9/19.
