It's almost severe storm season and this week is Severe Weather Awareness week in Alabama.

March, April and May are historically the busiest in Alabama for tornadoes and severe storms.  State and local officials are using this time to reinforce awareness of severe weather hazards and what you can do to be ready for them.

Each day this week, the National Weather Service will will address various hazardous and severe weather topics, including:

Sunday: Knowing your location and weather threats
Monday: Severe thunderstorms
Tuesday: Flooding
Wednesday: Tornadoes
Thursday: Lightning
Friday: Weather alerts and safety planning

To help with preparations, the state of Alabama will lift its sales tax for severe weather supplies from Feb. 23-25.  Some of the eligible items are batteries, cell phone chargers, radios, flashlights, tarps, tape, plywood, first aid kits, fire extinguishers and more.
