Stay Weather Aware Today & Info on Tropical Depressions

The counties within our listening areas have the potential for active weather this afternoon into this evening. The National Weather Service has issued a two-part Hazardous Weather Outlook. This outlook covers this afternoon/evening (Friday, August 21, 2020) and Tuesday through Thursday (August 25 – August 27).

Your immediate attention is for this afternoon and this evening. The National Weather Service noted that “a couple of storms may become severe this afternoon and early this evening, mainly along and south of a line from Carrollton, to Tuscaloosa, to Columbiana, to Alexander City, to Lafayette. Damaging winds up to 60 MPH and hail up to quarter size could occur.” This covers the following counties: Marion-Lamar-Fayette-Winston-Walker-Blount-Etowah-Calhoun-Cherokee-Cleburne-Pickens-Tuscaloosa-Jefferson-Shelby-St. Clair-Talladega-Clay-Randolph-Sumter-Greene-Hale-Perry-Bibb-Chilton-Coosa-Tallapoosa-Chambers-Marengo-Dallas-Autauga-Lowndes-Elmore-Montgomery-Macon-Bullock-Lee-Russell-Pike-Barbour.

Current guidance for Tuesday – Thursday is to Tropical Depression 13 and 14, which could become tropical storms very soon. According to the National Weather Service, “a tropical system could impact Central Alabama for the period Tuesday through Thursday. It is too early to forecast potential impacts at this time.” Currently, Tropical Depression 13 is approaching the northern Leeward Islands. Also, Tropical Depression 14 is approaching the Honduras and Nicaragua border coast. I will have a more detailed report for you on Tropical Depression 13 and 14 shortly.
