Alabama head coach held his first press conference of the postseason on Monday after his team continued its preparations for an Orange Bowl game against Oklahoma.

It was the first opportunity to update the status of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who underwent an ankle procedure after being injured in the SEC Championship win against Georgia.

“I think he’s probably ahead of schedule,” Saban said. “He’s been able to take a lot of reps. He’s been able to throw the ball from the pocket. He can run. I don’t think he’s 100 percent in terms of change of direction yet, but he’s already going 100 percent on the gravity treadmill. So he’s been able to practice and he’s made really, really good progress."

Alabama has been practicing for a few days ahead of a December 29 matchup in the College Football Playoff semifinals as the team looks to defend its national championship. Saban talked about preparations for that game, the challenges that Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray presents, the development of Jalen Hurts, and more during the press conference on Monday.
