Alabama has always had a very special place in my heart.  I lived in Alabama in the Shelby County area from 1999 until 2013.  I returned to the beautiful state, now living in Tuscaloosa since the summer of 2019.

Certain desserts describe Alabama to the fullest.  I mean, you can taste the southern hospitality and tradition right in the desserts.  Here are my picks:

If you love cookies, then you must have some of the famous Half Moon Cookies from Full Moon BBQ.  Words can’t express the goodness that comes from these cookies, but they will put on a smile on your face.  For Full Moon BBQ Locations, click here.

The Banana Pudding at Sisters’ Restaurant in Troy, Alabama, is … so … incredible.  Just go ahead and put this address 13153 US Hwy 231 Troy, Alabama 36081, in your favorite places in your GPS.  Once you have this banana pudding, you will be changed forever.   Get more info here.  I always get "several" servings to go!

During the holidays, I was at a party at a friend’s house and they served a Red Velvet Cake from Mary’s Cake and Pastries in Northport.  I’m glad I got a slice early because … that cake was gone with quickness.  I mean every bite I took; I could taste nothing but Southern Tradition.  I wish they were still open.

Peach Park is a “must stop” while traveling on I-65 to get a scoop (or several) of the Homemade Peach Ice Cream, which has been in existence since 1988.  If southern hospitality had a taste, it would be this Peach Ice Cream.  I always suggest planning your trip around stopping at Peach Park because they have a nice menu selection as well.  My mother would always say, “you haven’t lived until you had the Peach Congealed Salad.”  Also, they have a shop that has all tasty goods like Peach Butter, Peach Cider, and my favorite Fig Preserves.  You can find Peach Park 2300 7th Street South, Clanton, Alabama 35046.  You can find out more about Peach Park in Clanton, Alabama, right here. Always check in advance their open season and hours because they vary depending on the season.

Hands down my top-ranking Alabama Sweet is the Grapico cupcake from Dreamcakes in Homewood, Alabama.  All the cupcakes are fantastic, but my favorite is the Grapico cupcake.  It is a grape cupcake with a Grapico syrup filling topped with a purple Grapico frosting.  My Dad’s favorite was the Maple Bacon cupcake which is a butter cake, maple buttercream, topped with Bacon!  You can find Dreamcakes at 960 Oxmoor Road, Homewood, Alabama and click here to learn more.  Permission of the Grapico Cupcake Image was given by Jan P. at Dreamcakes.
