Aerosmith confirmed an appearance on NBC’s Today for Aug. 15, including the performance of a live set from New York. It’s possible the veteran band could use the national TV platform to announce its 50th anniversary tour.

“The popular, legendary group behind such hits as ‘Dream On,’ ‘I Don't Want to Miss a Thing’ and ‘Crazy’ will rock Today with a performance on Rockefeller Plaza,” NBC said in a statement, adding that ticket information would be released soon.

In a recent interview, guitarist Joe Perry explained why Aerosmith had kept a light schedule during 2018. “I think, the way things are going, we are going to try and and take it easy,” he said. "We may do a couple more one-offs — maybe some festivals over the next six or eight months. In 2019, we will be closing in on our 50th anniversary, so we are planning some dates and a tour to celebrate that. Right now we are pretty much laying low and finishing up some solo things before we start that."

It’s also possible that the band could be set to announce a follow-up LP to its 2012 album Music From Another Dimension! – although Perry spoke extremely cautiously of the idea in a February interview. He confirmed that “everybody’s vibe is we’d like to have some new material” but added, “Sometimes I think about, ‘What's the point?’ We've got all these songs that we've already written that have been on these albums that we'd love to play that no one's ever heard before. And I certainly love recording, and I could see it happening.”

Their last road trip was called Aero-Vederci Baby!, which appeared to be a halfhearted consideration of a farewell. “The feeling is, right now is gonna be in semi-tour mode for the next few years," Perry said beforehand. "I feel like, at this point, every show could be the last show. You just don't know. ... I always have this attitude, it's gotta be as good as it can be that day. That said, we don't have a day planned where we say, 'Okay, this is the last show.' You can't picture that. On the other hand, I know there will be a last show just like there's a one last time for everything in life."
