Alabama Defender Enters Transfer Portal
The Alabama Crimson Tide defense seemed to turn a corner in the second half of this past week's game against the Georgia Bulldogs. The defense forced two turnovers, held the Bulldogs to just 2-for-7 on third downs and kept the Georgia offense off the scoreboard, however after the strong performance in Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday its not all good news for the defense.
The Crimson Tide saw redshirt freshman defensive lineman Ishmael Sopsher choose to enter the transfer portal this week according to Matt Zenitz and several others. Sopsher has appeared in one game so far for Alabama, earning playing time in the Western Carolina matchup in 2019. He has not seen the field through four games in 2020.
Sopsher is a former 4-star prospect out of Amite, Louisiana. He was rated the No. 3 player in the state of Louisiana in the 2019 class by the 247Composite. He chose to attend Alabama over LSU and many others.
As a senior at Amite High School, Sopsher tallied 78 tackles, including 35 for loss with 12 sacks, eight forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries as he helped his team win the 2A state championship.
Alabama has used a total of six defensive lineman thus far in 2020, Justin Eboigbe, DJ Dale, Christian Barmore, LaBryan Ray, Phidarian Mathis and Byron Young.
It is not yet known if Sopsher will opt to return to Alabama or transfer to another school in search of a better fit for him.
