The Mobile Christian Leopards initially started the season with a 4-2 record, but the team had to forfeit all of its wins in late September, due to an ineligible player competing.

This put the Leopards in last place in Class 3A Region 1 and playoff hopes were slim.

Things did not get any better on that same weekend as Mobile Christian suffered a heartbreaking, one-point, overtime loss to Hillcrest-Evergreen, dropping them to 0-7 and 0-4 in region play.

With three games left, the Leopards looked to close out the regular season on a high note. Mobile Christian would start the month of October with back-to-back wins at home against Cottage Hill Christian and Flomaton. The Leopards ended the regular season with a dominant win on the road over Thomasville, finishing with an overall record of 3-7 and 3-4 in region play.

Would this late season surge be enough to make the playoffs?

Excel, Thomasville, and W.S. Neal sat comfortably in the top three spots of the region with playoff spots secured.

The fourth and final spot came down to three teams with identical 3-4 records in region play … Mobile Christian, Cottage Hill Christian, and Hillcrest-Evergreen.

The AHSAA tiebreaker rules granted Mobile Christian that final spot in the playoffs, keeping the Leopards wild season alive.

Mobile Christian travels to Houston Academy (10-0) for its first round matchup on Friday.
