The Alabama Crimson Tide softball team (34-7) defeated the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles (20-21) 6-3 tonight in Rhoads Stadium. The win puts the recent Florida series officially in the rearview mirror and gives Alabama momentum as the team prepares to close the SEC regular season.

Graduate senior Krystal Goodman was in total command tonight as she kept the Golden Eagles from mustering any sort of offense, allowing the Crimson Tide bats to warm up and win the game for Alabama. Goodman pitched six innings and struck out six batters, she allowed just one earned run off three hits and a walk. She allowed her only run in the game's first inning and then proceeded to deal five scoreless innings.

“It was another good outing from Krystal Goodman. Maddie had a key hit, Abby had a key hit and Tow hit the ball hard twice. It was good defense for the most part. Just about every player that was active today got in the game," said head coach Patrick Murphy.

Despite losing seven games in a row, the Golden Eagles kept the game competitive by largely keeping the Crimson Tide hitters under control in the early part of the game. Southern Miss limited Alabama to just two runs through the first four innings leaving them squarely in the contest the entire night.

Alabama broke the game open with a four-run fifth inning. Some timely small-ball loaded the bases and sophomore Savannah Woodard began the damage with a single up the middle to score Alexis Mack.

Abby Doerr then notched her sixth and seventh RBI of the season with a base hit to deep left field. Woodard capped off the scoring on a fielder's choice by freshman right fielder Kat Grill.

Alabama spread the offense around as six different Crimson Tide batters got a hit including Elissa Brown and Kaylee Tow each earning two. Woodard and Doerr both tallied two RBIs each while Grill and Maddie Morgan recorded the remaining two RBIs.

Freshman Jaala Torrence was brought into the game in the seventh inning to close the game for the Crimson Tide. Unfortunately, Torrence loaded the bases and then subsequently allowed Southern Miss to score two runs to tighten the game up. Torrence struck out one batter, walked one and allowed two runs on two hits.

Junior Montana Fouts was called upon to get the games final out to improve Alabama's all time record against Southern Miss to 14-2.

Alabama will host the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns in a two-game weekend series next. Alabama is scheduled to take on Louisiana at 1:30 p.m. CT on Saturday and again at 1:30 p.m. CT on Sunday.
