One of the top high school football players in West Alabama, American Christian Academy senior defensive back Kamari Lassiter, announced on Thursday night that he is committing to play at the University of Georgia.

Lassiter was also considering Auburn, Clemson and Georgia Tech.

"It was constant prayers for a very long time. I took my time in this process with my family, praying for being in this place right now, thank God, and I'm glad it's over," Lassiter said after his commitment.

Through eight games this season, Lassiter has 5 pass breakups and 9 tackles for loss. He is also a key piece of the offense for the undefeated Patriots, catching 15 passes for 338 yards and 5 touchdowns.

After recording 34 catches for 800 yards and 15 touchdowns in addition to four interceptions and a punt-return touchdown as a junior, Lassiter was named an All-State honorable mention at the "athlete" position by the Alabama Sports Writers Association.

"There were a lot of crystal balls saying I was going to Auburn early even though I keep my circles small," Lassiter said after playfully reaching for an Auburn hat before choosing Georgia's. "Only my family and I knew where I was really going, so it was just something to get the crowd going."

According to the 247Sports Composite Rating, Lassiter is the No. 11 player in Alabama, the No. 26 cornerback in the country and the No. 355 overall player.

Lassiter is the 17th commitment, third defensive back and third cornerback in Georgia's 2021 class. He is ranked No. 12 among the Bulldogs' 17 committed players. With Lassiter's commitment, Georgia's 2021 class is projected to move from eighth to sixth in the 247Sports Team Rankings.

"I've talked to a couple of commits and the relationship I have with Coach [Kirby] Smart is like no other," Lassiter said. "I think they've really made an intended effort to make both my family and I feel [welcome]."
