Will Santa Need a Coat or a Bathing Suit in Tuscaloosa, Alabama?
As you get ready to sing Christmas carols, deck the halls, and enjoy time with family and friends, the big question is ... will Santa need a coat or bathing suit while he visits Alabama?
The past few days have been cold with even a sub-freezing start to Thursday, December 23rd. Some Alabamians even had to pull out their winter coats. The good news is that our area will see a warming trend. However, that can be bad news for some that are wishing for a white Christmas. It’s just not going to happen for 2021 as we expect unseasonably mild temperatures.
James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist said that a “warming trend begins later today as temperatures rise into the low 60s with a sunny sky. Tomorrow will be a partly to a mostly sunny day with a high in the upper 60s. Christmas Day will be dry and warm with a high in the low to mid 70s.”
Could it be a Temperature Record-Breaking Holiday?
Spann noted that “Temperatures have reached or exceeded 70 degrees in Birmingham on December 25 ten times since 1900.” We will have to wait and see how high the holiday temperatures hit.

NEXT WEEK
Looking ahead to next week, James Spann mentions that the “weather will remain unseasonably mild through the week with highs mostly in the low 70s, thanks to an upper ridge over the Gulf Coast region. Moisture levels will rise by mid-week, and we will need to mention a chance of showers Wednesday, Thursday, and possibly Friday. On the positive side, we don't expect any severe weather issues.”
