ExtraMile Convenience Store, Chevron Gas Station Celebrate Grand Opening in Alberta
A joint ExtraMile convenience store and Chevron gas station are the newest kids on the block in Tuscaloosa's Alberta City after celebrating their grand opening Thursday afternoon.
Community members were able to score free pizza, chicken tenders and various drink options in honor of the celebration.
The gas station is the first to offer not only gasoline but also two EV charging stations for electric vehicle usage. Store owner Ric Mayers said the addition brings multiple fueling options to the area.
"You don't see these at any other gas station in the state and they are being utilized a good bit, a lot more than we expected," Mayers said. "It's important that we envision a future with multiple fueling sources."
District 5 Councilman Kip Tyner said the opening of the business is an indescribable feeling and is another step towards rebuilding the Alberta community, which was mostly destroyed during the April 2011 tornado.
"Words can't even describe how excited we are," Tyner said. "The tornado completely wiped this area out and it's been a major struggle in building back. We had to overcome high-priced, million dollars an acre land but finally, we see the light at the end of the tunnel. We got the new German company, Domino's Pizza, Jack's and now this beautiful ExtraMile Market and Chevron. We're on our way."
