Former Alabama Pitcher Inducted Into NY Softball Hall of Fame

Former Alabama softball pitcher Sarah Cornell was inducted into the New York Softball Hall of Fame over the weekend.

The New York native played three seasons with the Tide, transferring to the Capstone as a sophomore from Hofstra University, after a stellar freshman year, bringing with her an already impressive resume: the 2018 Colonial Athletic Association's strikeout leader, pitching eight shutouts, and was the 2018 Colonial Athletic Association Pitcher of the Year.

In 2019, Cornell had a career-best season, pitching 126 innings, giving up 105 hits, 45 earned runs, 49 walks, 15 home runs, struck out 88 batters, recorded two saves, and had a 22-1 record with a 2.50 earned run average. She also had a perfect fielding percentage.

In 2020, Cornell only saw five appearances in the 22-game season that was cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic, with only 15.1 innings under her belt, giving up 15 hits, 11 earned runs, seven walks, 15 strikeouts, four home runs, and a 5.02 earned run average.

In 2021, Cornell pitched 20.1 innings, giving up 12 hits, seven earned runs, nine walks, three home runs, struck out 20 batters, and had a 2-0 record with a 2.41 earned run average. During this time, she also threw a combined no-hitter with Montana Fouts in the team's season opener versus Alabama State.

According to rolltide.com, the Clarke High School alumna was the 2016 Gatorade New York State Player of the Year, a two-time Long Island Player of the Year, and recorded nine no-hitters.

Cornell graduated from the Capstone as an SEC Pitcher of the Year, first-team All-SEC, SEC All-Defensive Team, one-time SEC Pitcher of the Week, and SEC champion. Her legacy will not only live on throughout the SEC but now be cemented in her home state forever.
