Get Ready For Hot Temperatures This Week

Seriously, I still can’t believe it is mid-July, but these temperatures have reminded us that it is definitely summertime in Alabama.  I wanted to give you a heads up about the temperature concerns for this week.  The information from the National Weather Service guides us to know that “heat indices may reach or exceed 105 degrees during the afternoon Wednesday through Sunday. Take extra precaution if spending time outdoors.”  The peak of the hottest temperatures will be Wednesday, and the rest of the days should come back down but still hot.  This is how the highs will look for this week, Monday high near 93, Tuesday high near 95, Wednesday high near 99, Thursday high near 97, and Friday high near 97.

Be sure you are protecting yourself and loved ones during these hot temperatures.  According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, they believe that “heat-related deaths and illnesses are preventable.   Despite this, around 618 people in the United States are killed by extreme heat every year.”  I believe that these tips are essential for us all, like (1) Understanding the difference between a heat outlook, heat watches, and heat warnings. (2) Understanding heat-related illnesses like heat stroke, heat exhaustion, heat cramps, and heat rash.  Be sure to know the signs.  (3) Staying hydrated (4) Avoid dehydrating liquids like alcohol, coffee, tea, and caffeinated drinks.  (5) Stay in cool areas, like air-conditioning places. (6) Wear protective clothing that is lightweight, light-colored, and loose-fitting.  (7) Avoid sunburns.  Be sure to wear sunscreen.  (8) Please don’t overdo it in hot temperatures (9) Be sure to take breaks if you must work outside, and (10) Limit Outdoor Activities.
