Hale County Earns Big Region Win on Homecoming Against Monroe County
The Hale County Wildcats (3-3) picked up a big 3A Region 3 win on homecoming over the Monroe County Tigers (1-5), 47-6.
Homecoming is a big night for the city of Moundville and head coach Luke Laird was proud of the maturity of his squad.
“This game is a big region game for us, so this was not a typical homecoming,” said Laird. “With all of the distractions, I’m pleased with how the team handled it."
After a slow start from both teams, Hale County QB Matt Swartz fired a 12-yard touchdown pass to WR Jamarian Ryans, putting the Wildcats up 7-0.
Swartz finished the game 9-of-18 passing for 130 yards with 3 TDs. Ryans finished 2-of-2 receiving for 41 yards with both receptions being touchdowns.
The Wildcats put up 13 more points before the Tigers answered back.
Monroe County RB Jacorey Stallworth scored the only touchdown of the night for the Tigers on a 44-yard touchdown run with 5:35 left in the second quarter to cut the Wildcat lead to 20-6.
Stallworth finished with 82 rushing yards on 14 attempts and 1 TD.
Monroe County head coach Quincy Robinson saw a lot of promise from his team on that touchdown.
“This was the first time we scored in a while,” said Robinson. “Once we got physical, we played a little better ball."
Garner finished the game with 95 rushing yards on 8 attempts and 1 TD.
The Hale County defense stifled the Tiger rushing attack and forced three turnovers, keeping them scoreless for the remainder of the game.
The Wildcat offense scored three more touchdowns in the half, cementing the 47-6 win.
"I like how we bounced back and we're really working on putting four quarters together," said Laird.
Hale County visits Thomasville next week and Monroe County hosts Southside.
