Alabama Loses Four-Star EDGE Commit
Less than a day after the Crimson Tide lost a five-star wide receiver to Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss, Alabama loses another top prospect.
According to Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports, four-star linebacker Dawson Merritt has flipped his commitment from Alabama to Nebraska.
Merritt had been committed to the Crimson Tide since June 26, when he chose the Crimson Tide over the Cornhuskers.
Merritt, standing at 6-foot-3, 215 pounds, hails from Blue Valley High School in Stilwell, Kansas, where his dad is a coach for the Super Bowl-defending Kansas City Chiefs.
In 2023, Merritt recorded 83 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, seven sacks, three forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries as a junior.
The cupboard is not bear for the Crimson Tide. Merritt was being recruited at the WOLF position in Kane Wommack's defense, where Alabama has another high school prospect committed there - Justin Hill from Winton Woods High School in Cincinnati, Ohio.
In his commitment post to the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Merrit posted, “Trusting that the Lord is guiding me down the right path. GBR❤️ Proverbs 3:5-6”
Merritt's primary recruiter was Alabama outside linebacker coach Christian Robinson.
Wolf is a position that is succeeding this season under Wommack and Robinson's leadership. Que Robinson led Alabama in sacks prior to his season-ending injury against LSU, and Qua Russaw has thrived as a first-year starter during his redshirt sophomore season.
