Coming off an impressive win over the Missouri Tigers this Saturday afternoon, many Tide fans still have one question on their mind: can Alabama still make the college football playoffs? In previous years, having two losses this early in the year would spell doom for the Crimson Tide and eliminate them from all playoff hope. However, we are in a new time in college football with the new 12-team playoff formal. So that leaves us with the question: can Alabama still make the playoffs? The short answer is question, but the road to getting there is not an easy task, here are the things that need to happen.

WIN OUT IS A MUST

If Alabama football wants to make the playoffs this year, they must win out. A win this afternoon against Missouri was a great start, but they are still treading on thin ice due to early losses to Vanderbilt and Tennessee, as well as an ugly win at home against South Carolina. The Crimson Tide still has a tough schedule remaining as they take on the LSU Tigers in Death Valley, the Mercer Bears, the Oklahoma Sooners, and the Auburn Tigers. Winning out is no easy task in the SEC, but if the Crimson Tide want a shot at what they’ve been familiar with over the years, winning out is a necessity to achieving that goal.

THE GEORGIA BULLDOGS REMAIN DOMINANT

Along with winning out for the rest of the season, it would highly benefit the Crimson Tide if the Georgia Bulldogs win out as well and even win the SEC championship. The Tide pulled off a miraculous win against the Bulldogs back in September, But since then, the Bulldogs have looked like the best team in the country, beating the likes of the Auburn Tigers and Mississippi State Bulldogs and even knocking off the No. 1 team in the country, Texas Longhorns. If Alabama wants their resume to look as impressive as possible, then Georgia winning out is very crucial to that, as being the only team to beat the SEC champions all year looks pretty impressive to the committee.

MILROE HAS TO PLAY WELL

This one might seem super self-explanatory; however, there is a lot more that goes into this than you might think. Now, Milroe does not have to necessarily throw for 400+ yards and four touchdowns every game, but he has to step up for the Crimson Tide when it matters most. In the final drive of the Tennessee game, Milroe made a questionable throw into coverage and was picked off. Although everyone makes mistakes, Milroe has to limit them as much as possible if he wants to give his team a chance at the college football playoffs. There is no question that he has the talent to do so, and only time will tell if Milroe can be a national championship-winning quarterback.

So there you have it, those are the three main factors that will either make or break the Crimson Tides’ chance at making the college football playoffs come December. Some things Alabama can control and some other things they can’t control, but one thing that is for sure is that Alabama borderline has to play perfectly for the rest of the season.
