“Hey Coach” and the Kalen DeBoer Show ahead of Georgia
We're just days away from Alabama and Georgia kicking off in Bryant-Denny Stadium for the first SEC game of the Kalen DeBoer era in Tuscaloosa.
DeBoer made his final media appearance of the week on Wednesday night on the "Hey Coach Radio Show," and was joined by offensive lineman Tyler Booker.
Here's what DeBoer and Booker had to say about the top-five matchup with the Bulldogs on Saturday:
- Kalen DeBoer acknowledged that Georgia is Alabama's first SEC matchup and a heck of a first matchup. He also mentioned how much this game has meant in the past with multiple SEC Championships and National Championships at stake in past matchups.
- With the amount of hype around this game, DeBoer was asked about players balancing everything around the game. DeBoer mentioned that the team talked about it a couple of times already this week, saying the focus is there, and players are being intentional and deliberate.
- DeBoer was asked how Alabama's players spent the bye week following a 42-10 win at Wisconsin. DeBoer said several Alabama players spent the day watching football around the country. The team returned to practice during the bye week on Wednesday.
- PeeWee from Grand Bay was first up, as usual. He complimented Alabama's offensive line play during the Wisconsin game and asked about how the group came together since that game. DeBoer said the group has done a nice job, and it’s been helpful to get reps during the week off. Says Alabama has had more continuity in practice in the lead-up to the Georgia game.
- One caller asked about Keanu Koht and LT Overton. DeBoer praised how Overton has gotten to quarterbacks and caused havoc at the line of scrimmage. Says Koht has athleticism and speed that help the Crimson Tide.
- DeBoer was asked about Malachi Moore, and said "He'll be back."
- Caller told Kalen DeBoer to "kick their ass" on Saturday. Chris Stewart and DeBoer laughed, with Stewart saying "I don’t know if you can tell, but this one means something.”
- DeBoer said Georgia is a "well-rounded" team, noting Georgia has not given up a touchdown yet on defense or a punt return yard on special teams.
- Tyler Booker joined the show, speaking about how he loves to make a fan's day with an interaction, autograph, or picture.
- Booker talked about how he gives back to the community, hosting a football camp in his hometown of New Haven, Connecticut, and is a part of the "Big Brother, Big Sister" community in Tuscaloosa.
- How did Booker take shifting to left tackle against South Florida? He said he took it in stride and would do anything to help the team win, including playing left tackle (and receiver). DeBoer quickly said Alabama didn't need help at receiver.
- The final word by Kalen DeBoer? Alabama is not a finalized team, but they're making strides in the right direction because of players like Tyler Booker. Says Alabama expects to be successful every Saturday, including this one.
