Nate Oats Provides Injury Updates
Alabama Basketball has a lot of talent on the roster, but the injury bug has bit the Crimson Tide already this season, with Latrell Wrightsell Jr., Grant Nelson, Chris Youngblood, and Aiden Sherrell dealing with nicks prior to the start of the season.
On Thursday, Alabama head coach Nate Oats provided an injury update on all four players, with some positivity towards Wrightsell's availability against UNC-Asheville.
Oats said Wrightsell, Nelson, and Sherrell were held out of the two exhibition games against Wake Forest and Memphis, but all three have practiced in some capacity during the week leading up to the first game of the season.
Oats also mentioned Wrightsell was the furthest among the three, and he also has the most likely chance to play against UNC-Asheville on Monday, November 4.
“They’ve all done something these last two days in practice,” Oats said. “We’re off tomorrow. See how they recover after today’s practice, what they look like tomorrow and then see if we can get them in a little bit more Saturday, see where they’re at Sunday as kind of the day before game practice.”
When asked specifically about timelines, Oats said, "Wrightsell would play, that would be my guess right now,” He also said Alabama would have a better idea on Nelson and Sherrell following Saturday and Sunday practices. Alabama is hoping to have all three back on Monday, but they would all be on a minutes restriction if they are cleared to play.
The only other player dealing with an injury is guard Chris Youngblood, who Oats said would be out until around mid-December, before the Crimson Tide starts SEC play on January 8.
Tipoff for Alabama and UNC-Asheville is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. CT on ESPN U. Radio broadcast of Alabama and UNC-Asheville is available on Tide 100.9.
