OK, HERE WE GO...

I'm wondering if the name "Hobo-Cop" came from the news of some Alabama police departments testing these little machines.

Departments in Birmingham and Mobile have been testing the robots to see if they can help with staff shortages.

I understand that it's hard to find employees these days but this is not the way to go.

Next up, they will be replacing law enforcement officers. That is not a good thing in my opinion.

I'm hearing lots of great ideas that involve law enforcement using drones. For example, a weaponized drone could be sent into a building with an active shooter. This could save lives.

Back to the robots for a minute.

Robots are increasingly being tested and used by police departments all over America to help with various tasks.

For example, bomb disposal robots can be used to safely neutralize explosive devices, and robots equipped with cameras and other sensing equipment can be deployed for reconnaissance and surveillance purposes.

In some cases, robots can be used to transport supplies or equipment to and from crime scenes, freeing up police officers to focus on other tasks.

Another use of robots by police departments is in negotiating with barricaded suspects. These robots can be equipped with loudspeakers and other communication devices, allowing officers to communicate with suspects and potentially de-escalate dangerous situations.

In some cases, robots can also be equipped with weapons, although their use is controversial and has been the subject of much debate.

Overall, robots are playing an increasingly important role in law enforcement, but the challenges and risks associated with their use must be carefully managed to ensure that they are used responsibly and in a way that supports public safety and the protection of civil rights.
