There is a “level 2 out of 5” which is a “Slight Risk” for portions of South Alabama. In addition, there is a “level 1 out of 5” which is a “Marginal Risk” that reaches portions of our coverage area.

Timing & Areas

James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist mentioned that ‘There will be basically no surface-based instability available over the northern half of the state with this system (temperatures in the 40s and 50s), but unstable air could creep into the southern counties Tuesday night, setting the stage for severe thunderstorm potential generally from about midnight Tuesday night through 8:00 a.m. Wednesday.

Threats

“For areas south of U.S. 80, storms during this time frame could produce strong, potentially damaging winds, large hail, and a few tornadoes,” said Spann.

Please don’t forget that the entire Yellowhammer State could experience wind gusts up to 40 miles per hour that are not thunderstorm related.
