There is good news for our coverage area from the National Weather Service in Birmingham. They have “move the marginal risk farther south” for severe weather.

However, for those traveling for work or spring break vacations, this is a “fairly low-end severe weather threat for South Alabama, but a few storms ahead of the cold front could produce strong gusty winds. An isolated tornado can't be ruled out, but isn't likely,” said James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist.

Now, let’s talk about why the springtime weather has M.I.A.

Behind the front today we can expect that the colder air mass will settle into the region over the weekend,” said the National Weather Service in Birmingham.

Well Below Average Temperatures

There will be nearly a 20-degree difference between this morning and the late afternoon. Spann said that “many places will fall from the low 60s this morning, into the 40s by mid to late afternoon with a chilly north wind.”

Also, there are various freeze-watches in place. Click here for those details.
