The Alabama Department of Transportation is expecting to create more traffic woes in Tuscaloosa Thursday when they close lanes of McFarland Boulevard for a bridge inspection.

John McWilliams, ALDOT's public information officer in the western parts of the state, said the routine inspection of the Jack Warner Parkway bridge over McFarland is expected to last from 9 a.m. Thursday through 3:30 p.m., and some lanes will be closed throughout that period.

"The US-82 westbound right lane and ramp will be closed from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. The bridge crew will then re-open the ramp and continue its inspection toward the left lane. The westbound portion is expected to fully open at approximately noon," McWilliams said. "The bridge crew will then swap to the US-82 eastbound side. The left lane will be closed for approximately one hour, while the Jack Warner Parkway ramp toward Holt will remain closed until the inspection is finished. The bridge crew will then re-open the left lane and continue its inspection toward the right lane. The eastbound portion is expected to fully open at approximately 3:30 p.m."

McWilliams said the inspection will not impact or close the Jack Warner Parkway ramp toward the University of Alabama, which will remain open throughout the inspection.

The ALDOT spokesperson said the inspection is expected to create traffic delays, and any motorist who can avoid that stretch of McFarland Boulevard Thursday morning and afternoon is encouraged to do so.
