Restaurants and stores in downtown Tuscaloosa will be showcased next week during the first-ever Retail Trail open house, a new concept set to debut Monday when the Tinsel Trail returns to Government Plaza.

Every year, local businesses and decorate sponsored Christmas trees for the Tinsel Trail, which benefits Tuscaloosa's One Place nonprofit family resource center.

Now, for the first time, shops and restaurants across the downtown sector will open their doors for a holiday open house to coincide with the Tinsel Trail's grand opening next Monday night.

The trail will feature more than 30 restaurants, stores and shops in downtown Tuscaloosa, many of which will be offering special discounts and free refreshments for patrons who visit during the event, whether they're beloved regulars or visiting the business for the first time.

"A group of Tuscaloosa’s merchants banded together to form this event with the desire to highlight all the amazing businesses that exist in our downtown community," said Craig Williams, who owns the Avenue Pub and the Wine Market. "This is a great opportunity for you to learn about and visit businesses you may have never been to, and see first-hand the value these establishments contribute to the Tuscaloosa community at large."

The Retail Trail open house is scheduled to run from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. next Monday, November 21st.

"Be sure to grab your friends and family, and take a stroll through downtown to check them out before or after enjoying the festivities of the Tinsel Trail opening night!" Williams said.
