Car Pursuit Draws Large Police Presence on 15th Street Wednesday Night
Police in Tuscaloosa arrested a man after leading units on a car chase, drawing a large police presence to a gas station, and left one officer injured Wednesday night.
According to Tuscaloosa Police Department spokeswoman Stephanie Taylor, the incident began after police attempted to stop a man for reckless driving near James I. Harrison, Jr. Parkway and First Avenue around 9:45 p.m.
Taylor said the driver then went east on Skyland Boulevard, west on McFarland Boulevard before getting on the interstate. The driver left the interstate, entering back onto McFarland and Skyland Boulevards again before heading toward 15th Street.
Taylor said the driver was heading towards oncoming traffic before bailing out at the Chevron gas station at 3rd Avenue and 15th Street.
According to reports submitted to the Tuscaloosa Thread, the incident drew several unit vehicles and an ambulance to the scene.
Taylor confirmed the suspect was checked out by medics after a taser was used to subdue him and one officer was injured during a foot pursuit. Both the officer and suspect are fine, according to Taylor.
The suspect, whose identity has not been released, is expected to face charges for reckless driving and attempting to elude, with more charges expected to be filed in the case.
