The University of Alabama has launched an investigation after messages targeting the Jewish community were found written in chalk in public areas across the campus Thursday morning.

The messages on sidewalks all over the Capstone Thursday were in support of Ye, the rapper otherwise known as Kanye West, who shocked the world in December with escalating, overtly anti-Semitic comments as absurd as "I like Hitler" and “I love Jewish people, but I also love Nazis.”

The chalked messages said "Ye Is Right" and included tomorrow's date, January 27th.

Shane Dorrill, the assistant director of communications at the University, said UA condemns these messages and is working to remove and investigate them.

"The University was notified this morning about anonymous chalkings with concerning language targeting our Jewish community. We condemn these chalkings, which violate our Capstone Creed, our campus culture and our core values. Our expectation is that everyone be treated with civility and respect," Dorrill said in a statement. "As soon as we were notified of the chalkings we began removing them, initiated an investigation and organized resources for those impacted and concerned. Public Safety and the Offices of Student Life and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion are fully engaged and providing related support."
