A 25-year-old Northport woman was hospitalized Saturday after she was stabbed in the face during an argument over cigarettes, according to a police spokesperson.

Captain Kip Hart, the assistant commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, said sheriff's deputies were called to a residence on Clay Lane in Northport after receiving reports of a stabbing there.

The victim told police she had been arguing with a relative over cigarettes when they pulled out a pair of scissors and stabbed her in the face. The victim was taken to DCH Regional Medical Center and treated for wounds that are not life-threatening, Hart said.

Police were able to quickly locate the suspect and charge 35-year-old Tennis Simpson with second-degree assault. She was placed in the Tuscaloosa County Jail, where her bond was set at $15,000.
