One of Bear Bryant’s Iconic Houndstooth Hats Up For Auction
Houndstooth is a pattern that many Crimson Tide fans know and love. If you don't see Houndstooth around The Capstone on an Alabama game day, then something might be amiss. One of the most famous wearers of houndstooth was none other than Paul "Bear" Bryant.
With spring practice set to begin, a relic of Alabama's football past has once again found itself in the limelight. We talked about when two hats of Bear Bryant sold for a large amount near the end of 2021. Now, another one of Bryant's hats has found itself up for auction.
On Lelands.com, the hat, at the time of writing sits at $3,000 for the current bid. According to Lelands, the hat has a letter included from Cherry Bryant. The letter talks about how the hat shown "is a warm missive to a friend who may have asked for a Bryant hat for her husband."
Cherry also mentions in the letter that "the place that used to carry the hats that Bryant loved had gone out of business." The letter itself is from April 1987. The hat itself also seems to be a gift, as the letter says " this houndstooth hat from Bear Bryant that she is sending to her friend."
Bear Bryant would give away his iconic hats as gifts. And there's no better than to celebrate the return of Alabama Football's spring practice than with this hat.
However, for those wishing to get the legendary hat, time is of the essence. For much like any Alabama Football game when the clock strikes zero, the quest to obtain victory will have to stop (for a little bit!) at some point.
