Slow The Spread Of COVID-19 With Cloth Face Coverings In Public

There is a new recommendation from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; the “CDC now recommends Americans consider wearing cloth face coverings in public,” according to NPR.  This sent many of my Facebook friends to start the conversations of, should I wear a facemask or not?  How to make your own facemask?  And more!  As we know, there is a limited supply of medical-grade facemasks for our nation’s health care workers, along with other health care personal protective equipment. So I encourage you to make your own if you can.

The CDC also “advises the use of simple cloth face coverings to slow the spread of the virus and help people who may have the virus and do not know it from transmitting it to others.  Cloth face coverings fashioned from household items or made at home from common materials at low cost can be used as an additional, voluntary public health measure.”

Also, I feel it is important to remind you the steps from the CDC on “How to Wear a Cloth Face Covering - Cloth face coverings should fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face, be secured with ties or ear loops, include multiple layers of fabric, allow for breathing without restriction, and be able to be laundered and machine dried without damage or change to shape.”

The most important information is that if you make your own face covering, be sure to sanitize it the best way you can.  The CDC recommends that “a washing machine should suffice in properly washing a face covering.”

Here is an excellent video on how to make your own face mask from the U.S. Surgeon General, Dr. Jerome Adams.
