As a woman, I really want to understand why it is so difficult to get doctors to listen to us. The struggle is real. We are often dismissed and told that is just what comes along with being a woman. Not fair.

What else is sad, that the struggle is even worse for women of color. Is racism healthcare? The Washington Post discussed how “black infant mortality rate (babies who die before their first birthday) is more than two times higher than for whites — 11.4 deaths per 1,000 live births for blacks compared with 4.9 for whites.”

My diverse groups of friends often tell me how doctors dismiss their concerns when they ask questions. I feel the same way. As if asking questions about my body is wrong. Miss me with that line of thinking.

Pardon the rant, but doctors just don't seem to listen to women. What gives? Are they too busy? Have a prescription agenda? Or just don’t care?

But, let us stand up for ourselves, our children, and our families. We are labeled out of control. I pray that there comes a time where we are all treated equally and fairly to our male counterparts in the medical field.

I had high hopes for a previous doctor but it was a complete letdown. They barely looked at me in the exam room. The worst part, the doctor didn’t seem to care about my areas of concern. However, there was enough time to shove a bunch of prescriptions my way. I was halfway tempted to ask for my co-pay back.

If you ask me, it's completely ridiculous how some doctors, male and female, try to downplay our health concerns. I ask again, why? What do they have to gain out of not listening or helping women? If you have an idea, shoot me an email.
