The Alabama Crimson Tide softball team fell 3-2 to the Missouri Tigers in extra innings Friday at Rhoads stadium. The game got off to a fast start with the Tigers leading 2-1 after the first inning and all the runs coming from home runs, but things slowed down after that.

Starting pitcher Montana Fouts and the Tide defense did a good job of keeping the Tiger bats in check with Fouts logging 14 strikeouts while pitching a complete game. The two early runs came from a two-run-homer from Kimberly Wert. The ball was sent to the center field warning track where it bounced out of Savannah Woodard’s glove over the wall while Woodard was making contact with the wall.

Woodard was immediately pulled for Dallis Goodnight. Coach Patrick Murphy said he is unsure if fans will see Woodard the rest of the weekend as the Tide close out their regular season.

“We just didn’t continue innings. The most we had up to bat in one inning was five,” said Murphy of his team’s offensive performance. The Tide’s only two runs came on solo home runs from senior Ashley Prange and sophomore Bailey Dowling.

“We have to have another person who can get on base. That’s been the story all year long, too. It’s very frustrating,” Murphy said. “First half of the game there was way too many popups, you know, easy outs.”

The Tide will attempt to make adjustments to the offense going into Saturday and Sunday’s games, though Murphy notes that that is easier said than done. Another loss this weekend would make this the Tide’s worst season since 2018.
