Tuscaloosa Remembers Investigator Dornell Cousette

It's officially been one year since the untimely death of Tuscaloosa Investigator Dornell Cousette. Tuscaloosa still feels his impact today.

I woke up to a post from the Tuscaloosa Police Department of Facebook paying tribute to fallen Investigator Dornell Cousette. I immediately thought back to that night I first heard about the news. Although I was still fairly new in Tuscaloosa, I could see and feel how that night affected residents in this community.

Tuscaloosa PD shared a touching tribute for the fallen officer. They also shared a few photos of community members showing their love for officer Cousette and other photos. The post mentions how these photos are what "officers see every day when they enter police headquarters aren't there so we will remember how he died. They're there so we can remember how he lived, and strive every day to match his level of dedication and service."

I recall going to Bryant-Deny Stadium and seeing the whole stadium lit in blue lights as a tribute to officer Cousette. It was one of the most amazing things I've seen. The memorial set on the Walk Of Champions was beautiful to see as well. The community was there in full force paying tribute just days after that horrible night where officer Cousette lost his life.

I can't imagine what his family and friends are going through and I hope they're staying strong as they continue to heal from this tragic experience. Although I'm new to the city of Tuscaloosa, I can see how impactful officer Cousette was to this community. May he rest in peace.
