A devastating fire in West Alabama has displaced 11 families and injured one person.

As first reported by the Tuscaloosa Thread this morning, the fire occurred late Tuesday night at Cottondale Efficiency Apartments off Highway 11 in Cottondale.

Perry Madison, owner of the Cottondale Efficiency Apartments, said that the fire was reported just after 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. Madison said 11 units were destroyed in the fire, and one resident sustained a mild head injury when evacuating.

Madison says the American Red Cross has offered to assist the families impacted by the fire, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa is currently developing plans to help those families during the holiday season.

Tuscaloosa Fire and Rescue responded to the scene last night and shared photos of the fire in progress to social media.

Crews responded to structure fire at Cottondale Efficiency Apartments last night around 11:00. The fire involved eleven apartments and all occupants were accounted for with one minor injury.
