Worried About COVID-19 Personally?  Don’t Worry You Are Not Alone

At the time of this story, the Alabama COVID-19 Dashboard reported that Alabama had 45,263 confirmed COVID-19 cases.  In the past fourteen days, 13,511 cases reported.  I don’t know about you, but this COVID-19 pandemic seems like it has been going on forever, and the surge is concerning.  My point of reference for an unofficial personal start date would be the first weekend in March.  I was actually in Atlanta, Georgia, speaking at the Women In Radio conference.  During this trip, I witnessed the early signs of businesses operating differently due to the pending “threat” of COVID-19.  Once I returned to Alabama that following Monday, that is when it got “real” for me.  From that point on, I have been practicing social distancing, wearing a mask, washing my hands, disinfecting surfaces, and just trying to make smart decisions.  Even with that, I still had a COVID-19 exposure scare last week.

I am personally very concerned about contracting the illness.  Therefore, I try my best to follow the recommended protocols.  I was relieved to know that I am not the only one that has concerns.  In fact, according to YouGov, “as coronavirus cases continue to rise across the United States, about two-thirds of Americans (65%) are now worried about personally contracting the illness.”  Me, I am part of that two-thirds.  I also have a hand full of friends that have contracted the coronavirus.  Also, a few people in radio that I know across the United States that have had to quarantine because they have tested positive for COVID-19.  Also, the data from YouGov noted that “about one in five Black (19%) and Hispanic (19%) Americans personally know someone who has died from COVID-19. About one in nine white Americans (11%) say the same.”  Let’s stay positive and keep trying to keep ourselves, our family, and our friends safe.
