Alice Cooper Laughs at Retirement, Praises Nita Strauss + Talks Hollywood Vampires
With so many aging rockers retiring, one legend who has no intent of stopping anytime soon is Alice Cooper. During an exclusive chat with the shock rock icon, he explained how he feels better than ever, praised guitarist Nita Strauss and called Hollywood Vampires the world’s most expensive bar band.
Black Sabbath are finished, Slayer’s calling it quits in 2018… even young bands like The Dillinger Escape Plan have gone the way of the dodo. At 70 years old, the same age Glenn Tipton was forced off tour with Judas Priest due to Parkinson’s, Alice Cooper laughs in the face of retirement.
“I have absolutely not thought of retirement at all,” Cooper proudly states. “I’ve never been in better shape in my life, probably because there’s no stress. There’s very little stress in my life … Everybody [in the band] is just best friends. There’s no backbiting, there’s no ego, everybody can’t wait to do the show, there’s no financial stress. It’s just go do the show and have fun.”
Cooper also told us about the internal dynamics of Hollywood Vampires, which famously features Aerosmith’s Joe Perry and actor Johnny Depp. “You’ve got three alpha males,” Cooper says. “When I first got into rehearsal, I said, ‘This is going to be a circus. I’m going to back off.’ Johnny said, ‘I’m gonna back off,’ Joe says, ‘I’m gonna back off.’ We’ve never had one argument.”
