Tuscaloosa's iconic Cypress Inn restaurant closed Sunday, according to a letter from its owners Ron Price and Bill and Cathy Lunsford.

In a copy of the letter posted on social media, the owners told the restaurant's employees that Cypress Inn would close Sunday, July 21st, for renovations that may take several months.

"Your time here is greatly appreciated. We have enjoyed working with each of you," the letter reads. "Now it is time for a new concept and some changes to this iconic facility."

The Lunsfords and Price took over ownership of the restaurant in October, but in the letter they said to "look for an announcement for new ownership soon."

The letter says they hope to have a "new and improved restaurant" open in September.

No on answered the phone at the restaurant Monday afternoon, and the Lunsfords could not immediately be reached for comment.

We'll have information more on the future of the Cypress Inn as it becomes available. A post on Cypress Inn's Facebook page says only that the restaurant is closing for renovations, making no mention of a change in ownership or a new concept coming later this year.
