Eli Gold Sidelined To Start The 2022 Football Season

The University of Alabama announced on Wednesday that veteran play-by-play radio broadcaster Eli Gold will be sidelined to start the 2022 football season. Gold has served as the voice of the Crimson Tide since 1988 but due to health issues he will not be available at the beginning of the year.

Jim Carabin, the vice president and general manager of Crimson Tide Sports Marketing announced the news and announced Chris Stewart will be increasing his role on the network to fill in for Gold.

Stewart will also take over as the primary host for "Hey Coach" and "The Nick Saban Show" which airs on Thursday evenings in the fall semester. The shows will return for the new season on Aug. 18 at 6:30 p.m. CT.

Gold began his broadcasting career calling hockey and NASCAR before assuming his role with the Crimson Tide. He has been on the broadcast for seven national championship wins for Alabama and 11 SEC titles. There have been seven head coaches for the Tide while Gold has been in the broadcast booth.

Stewart already serves as the Tide's primary play-by-play radio broadcaster for men's basketball and baseball and has been with Crimson Tide Sports Network for 20 years. He's been named the Alabama Sportscaster of The Year by the National Sports Media Association five times in his career.
