The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a flash flood warning in Tuscaloosa, Pickens and Jefferson Counties as heavy rain moves through West and Central Alabama Wednesday morning.

According to the NWS, some areas will see up two inches of rainfall in an hour.

Impacted areas included Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Hoover, Vestavia Hills, Bessemer,
Homewood, Northport, Mountain Brook, Trussville, Helena, Hueytown,
Gardendale, Irondale, Leeds, Moody, Fairfield, Fultondale,
Sumiton, Aliceville and Gordo.

Flooding is expected to impact smalls creeks and streams, some highways, roads and underpasses and low-lying areas across the region.

The NWS reminds drivers to turn around, don't drown if they encounter a flooded road while driving - most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

The warning is in effect until 11:45 Wednesday morning.
