Alabama Expected to Hire Special Teams Coach
The Alabama Crimson Tide continue to bolster its coaching staff with the addition of yet another member to Kalen DeBoer's initial Alabama staff.
According to a report by Parker Thune of Oklahoma's Rivals page, Alabama is set to hire Oklahoma special team analyst Jay Nunez to be their special teams coordinator.
Nunez was the senior special teams analyst in 2022, his first season in Norman. Now, Nunez will join DeBoer in Tuscaloosa.
There was speculation that Alabama tight end coach Nick Sheridan or new linebacker coach William Inge could potentially coach special teams, but with the addition of Nunez, Sheridan and Inge have the ability to fully focus on the units that they primarily coach.
Nunez will have his work cut out for him, with Alabama losing the NCAA All-Time Points Leader Will Reichard. Replacing Reichard's surefire kicking will be a tough challenge in Nunez's first season in the SEC.
Alabama is building a strong first staff under DeBoer. Could it be possible for Crimson Tide fans to look down the line in a few years and realize that this Alabama staff is just as loaded as the 2015 crew that won a national championship?
Only time will tell. With Alabama beginning offensive install this week and spring practice beginning on March 4th, the Crimson Tide will hope for a strong Spring to prepare for a tough season in the SEC this fall.
Alabama's coaching staff currently looks like this:
Kalen DeBoer: Head Coach
Ryan Grubb: Offensive Coordinator
Kane Wommack: Defensive Coordinator
Scott Huff: OL Coach
JaMarcus Shephard: WR Coach
Robert Gillespie: RB Coach
Nick Sheridan: TE Coach
Freddie Roach: Assistant HC/DL Coach
William Inge: LB Coach
Colin Hitschler: Co-DC/DB Coach
Maurice Linguist: Co-DC/DB Coach
