Gold Takes New Play-By-Play Job

It was announced early Friday that the veteran play-by-play man will be the new voice of the Nashville Kats of the Arena football league. 2024 will mark the first year of the team's third incarnation.

Per the Nashville Post:

"There were two versions of the Nashville Kats in the AFL. The first played here from 1997-2001, reaching the Arena Bowl in each of its first two years, before moving to Atlanta. The second, which featured former Titans owner Bud Adams as an owner, played in Nashville from 2005-07 before Adams shut down operations."

Gold spent 35 years behind the mic for Alabama football and also has extensive experience calling NASCAR races, minor league hockey and much more.

The 70-year old was informed recently that his CTSN contract to call Alabama football would not be renewed when it expires in June, and that Chris Stewart will be the new full time voice of Crimson Tide football.

For those not familiar, arena football is played on a 50-yard field and features much more scoring than its traditional counterpart, so Gold will be quite busy during games. He is also known for his immaculate and tireless game preparation, which will allow him to do a great job for his new listeners in Tennessee.

The Kats schedule runs April 27 to June 29 for a 10-game regular season. Perhaps Gold and his melodious tones can help propel them to the AFL playoffs after that.

While the current iteration of the Kats roster shows no former Bama players, that could change in the weeks to come.
