Get ready to see, and hear, the Salvation Army in Tuscaloosa as they ring the bells for this year's holiday campaign.

The official kickoff event with Santa Claus is happening on Friday, November 17 at the University Mall Court at 6 p.m.

It's the holiday scene that we all see every year at businesses across West Alabama. It's officially known as the Christmas Tree & Red Kettle Campaign.

In a statement released this week, Capt. Michael Chisolm an Officer of The Salvation Army said, "This is our favorite time of the year because people are inspired to give generously to those in need".

According to The Salvation Army Tuscaloosa, the goal for this year's campaign is $100,000 total, with $75,000 for the Kettle and $25,000 for the Virtual Kettle.

Last year, thanks to the donations from West Alabama, enabled The Salvation Army to serve 51,456 meals and help 346 families remain in their homes.

The Salvation Army is keeping up with current methods for fundraising with QR codes on all Red Kettles so shoppers can conveniently scan their phones to donate.

In addition, Angel Tree adoptions are a traditional part of the holiday campaign offering support for children and families struggling with expenses this time of year.

Adoptions can be made during the kickoff event at University Mall or by stopping by The Salvation Army Center of Hope located at 2902 Greensboro Avenue in Tuscaloosa.
