A two-vehicle crash that occurred in neighboring Bibb County Tuesday morning claimed the life of a Jemison man.

According to a release from Corporal Reginal King with the Troopers Office in West Alabama, the accident occurred at 6 a.m. near the 8 mile marker of Alabama 139, located one mile north of Randolph.

The release said 51-year-old L.J. Smith was seriously injured when the 2009 Saturn Aura he was driving was struck by a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by a 29-year-old Randolph man.

Smith was transported to UAB Hospital in Birmingham where he was pronounced dead.

No other information is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency's Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
