Tuscaloosa Holds Groundbreaking for McWright’s Ferry Road Project
A groundbreaking ceremony was held Friday for the Tuscaloosa County Road Improvement Commission's (TCRIC) McWright’s Ferry Road Extension project.
The $66 million project aimed at reducing local travel times and expanding ease of access to emergency personnel is expected to be completed towards the end of 2025, or the beginning of 2026.
As previously reported by the Thread, plans indicate the new infrastructure will connect Rice Mine Road to New Watermelon Road via a bridge over North River and a connection to McWright's Ferry Road.
Pedestrian traffic is also expected get a bridge over North River, along with a shared-use path that will connect to the Northern Riverwalk.
After breaking ground officially on March, the city of Tuscaloosa released a video update of the project in April.
