Parents Beware: Water Filters Sending Kids To Emergency Room
Have you seen the new TikTok trend? Unfortunately, many Alabama teens have been trying this themselves. Halloween parties over this past weekend were prime time for teenagers to try this TikTok hack.
The outcome did not turn out well for many. Some were hospitalized for alcohol poisoning, and more than a few woke up with hangovers! I feel that some videos should have disclaimers stating “Do Not Try This At Home”.
Let’s talk about the evolution of TikTok. This was a video-sharing app made popular with teenagers all over the world. Yes, as adults, we have infiltrated the social media platform that was once dominated strictly by the teenage crowd.
We, as adults, sometimes forget that the videos we post are viewed by the underage crowd. So what do you need to accomplish this trend? All you need is a water filtering pitcher, such as a Brita, and cheap liquor. Example…vodka. Cheap vodka. Scroll below to see video.
Exactly what makes a good vodka? Good vodka gets distilled more times than cheap vodka. Distilling the vodka removes impurities, so the more times it’s distilled the more impurities get removed. The final product results in better-tasting vodka. Personally, if any vodka tasted that good we wouldn’t need orange juice to make it taste better.
This concept seems like it would work. I’m no scientist, but filtering is supposed to remove impurities so this is something that may work. Many have claimed that filtering vodka, or any cheap alcohol, makes the alcohol taste better. Some claim it completely takes away the taste of the alcohol. For some reason I feel like I have heard of this hack before, I just don’t remember where. This is a first for me, I’m sitting here watching my water drip, slowly, into my pitcher. It’s like watching the clock and waiting for the workday to end.
Honestly, this process takes a little time. I never realized how slow the filtration process was. Just how patient are teenagers these days? I can’t picture teenagers waiting patiently for the filtration process to finish. I mean, most teens can’t wait for a bag of microwave popcorn to have the 30-second gap between pops before pulling out the bag! Now, I must say that I am a little concerned. All jokes aside, this is a very serious issue.
For the parents, I can’t imagine how frightening it must be to see your child in a hospital bed suffering from alcohol poisoning. For the teenagers trying this trend, I pray the hangover is enough to keep you from drinking again!
Now for my thoughts about this trend…
Some trends and hacks are worth it. I use some of them daily. This one, not so much. I don’t see the benefit of wasting my time watching the drip…drip…drip.
So, if you are over 21, and only if you are over 21, and have nothing better to do, yes go ahead and try this hack.
Even if it's just so you can tell your friends you tried it.
