Tuscaloosa Police notified the public via Facebook that officers concluded a chase between TPD and a two people in West Tuscaloosa Friday night.

One teenager has been arrested on felony drug and weapons charges after they fled a residential area in West End that afternoon. There is a second suspect still on the loose.

According to TPD's Facebook page, the pursuit "began on 23rd Street when two officers attempted to stop a Honda Fit." The Honda was driving 50 mph in a 25 mph residential zone. When the teenager, identified only as a 17-year-old, did not stop the vehicle, a pursuit ensued on T.Y. Rogers Avenue, 25th Street and Elm Street.

The Facebook post added that the driver jumped from the vehicle as it was still going 45 mph but was captured not long after. A mailbox suffered when the car crashed near New Home Baptist Church.

The passenger fled from the moving vehicle and escaped, but not after dropping an AR-15 rifle, which was found to be fully loaded. As of this post's publishing, the second suspect is still on the loose. The driver was carrying a fully-loaded handgun and there were other loaded weapons inside the Honda. The suspects were also in possession of large amounts of marijuana.

The driver is being held at the Tuscaloosa County Juvenile Detention Center. Their charges currently include:

  • Attempting to elude
  • Resisting arrest
  • Certain persons forbidden from possessing a firearm
  • First-degree possession of marijuana
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
