Marginal Risk for Severe Storms on Sunday for Portions of Central Alabama
Today, Saturday, January 8, 2022, our coverage areas will experience a warm-up in temperatures in comparison to the past few days. On Sunday we are expecting a frontal boundary that will be associated with scattered thunderstorms. These storms could have the potential to develop severe thunderstorms.

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has predicted the following for Sunday:
Where:
Southern third of Central AL
When:
Between 12 PM and 9 PM Sunday
Threats:
A brief tornado possible
Damaging winds up to 60 mph
James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist commented that the severe thunderstorms for Sunday are for “areas south of a line from Moundville to Wetumpka to Clio. A few storms over Southwest Alabama could produce strong gusty winds tomorrow; a brief tornado can't be totally ruled out, but is not likely with weak wind fields.”
