The Week Will Be Wet With Concerns For Flooding

Enjoy today because tonight will kick off several days of wet weather for our area.  This heavy rainfall is a concern because it brings the threat of flooding.  Since we have already have had a good amount of rain, the ground is already saturated.  Therefore, new rainfall could bring the potential to produce flash flooding.  Also, the prediction is that many rivers will rise past their flood stage.  Please remember, “Turn-Around … Don’t Drown.”

According to the National Weather Service, the “Extended rainy period with associated flood risk; rain totals maximized near I-20, totaling ~5-7 inches; ~3-5 inches between I-20 & I-85.”  Also, “across Central Alabama are urged to monitor forecasts and be prepared to take protective action should flooding develop in their area.”

There is Flood watch from Monday morning (2.10.2020) until Tuesday afternoon (2.11.2020).  According to the National Weather Service this flood watch is for Flood Watch for portions of central Alabama, east central Alabama, northeast Alabama, northwest Alabama, and west central Alabama, including the following areas, in central Alabama, Bibb, Blount, Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair, Talladega, and Walker. In east central Alabama, Calhoun and Cleburne. In northeast Alabama, Cherokee and Etowah. In northwest Alabama, Marion and Winston. In west central Alabama, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar, Pickens, Sumter, and Tuscaloosa.”

Here is how the rain percentages will pan out for the week (as of the posting of this weather blog).
