The National Weather Service has added Tuscaloosa and much of central Alabama to the list of counties under a Winter Weather Advisory for Tuesday (1/16) into Wednesday morning.

The area had previously been under a Winter Storm Watch but that was changed on Monday afternoon. It will be in effect from 6 a.m. Tuesday until 6 a.m. Wednesday, but those times could change depending on the forecast. The National Weather Service also issued a Hard Freeze Watch that will last until 9 a.m. on Thursday as temperatures aren't supposed to stay in the low to mid 30s for much of Wednesday.

Most forecasts are preparing residents for potential travel issues on Wednesday as snow moves in and the freezing weather is expected to cause icing on the roadways. The early morning hours of Wednesday might be the worse as lows are expected to drop into the teens.

This is the latest forecast for snow arriving in different portions of the state. As you can see, snow could begin as early as 9 or 10 a.m. in Tuscaloosa. Forecasts are calling for less than an inch in Tuscaloosa.

The Alabama EMA agency has also issued a notice to drivers to be off the roads as soon as snow begins falling because ice could form quickly. Some meteorologists are even likening it to 'Snowmageddon' in 2014 when much of the state was overwhelmed by ice that cause shutdowns for multiple days.
