How well do you know Black History? The University of Alabama is gearing up for their annual Black History Month celebration and programming. This year, the Black Faculty and Staff Association has partnered with the UA Division of Student Life to host the very first Inaugural Black History Scholar Bowl.

The event will take place on February 27th and all colleges and universities across the state of Alabama are encouraged to participate.

The organizations are specifically looking for undergraduate student clubs, organizations or individually organized student teams to compete. The scholar bowl will test each team's knowledge of African American history in various categories.

According to Chad Jackson, BFSA president, this scholar bowl will be the first time an event like this is held including different colleges around the state. If all goes well, the scholar bowl will find a permanent home in UA's black history programming.

"We will have a trophy and the money we generate from our sponsors will be the grand prize for the winning team," Jackson said.

According to the BFSA website, The event is currently being planned as a hybrid event with both virtual and in-person components. The website also states the event is designed to celebrate black history and create healthy competition between neighboring colleges.
