Our weather stays pretty mild over today and tomorrow. This should give us all a tease of Spring-like weather. However, don’t put away your winter coats just yet. Temperatures do turn colder quickly. Click here for Punxsutawney Phil predictions from Groundhog Day.

According to the National Weather Service Birmingham, we should be “mostly cloudy with showers south this morning. Highs from mid-60s northwest to around 70 south. Mostly cloudy tonight with lows from mid 40s northeast to mid 50s southeast. Cloudy Wednesday with showers south and east. Highs from mid-60s northwest to around 70 south.”

The warmth doesn’t last long as we should expect widespread rain on Thursday and Thursday night. James Spann, ABC 33/40 and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist, noted on his Facebook page that “thunderstorms are possible, but severe storms are not expected as the higher shear values will be on the north side of the front in the colder air. Rain amounts will be around one inch, and the high Thursday will be in the 60s. Then, much colder air slips into North Alabama Friday.”

Cold rain will make its way to Alabama on Saturday, with that will come colder temperatures. James Spann believes “that there remains some outside risk of a brief period of freezing rain for North Alabama, but for now, it looks like most of the rain will be over by the time sub-freezing temperatures arrive.”

Will Alabama see any winter weather, and when? That is indeed the big question. The weather data has been all over the place. “Global models are hinting at some risk of freezing rain for parts of North Alabama with this event, but in a complex pattern seven days out, it is simply too early to call,” James Spann.

I will continue to monitor this winter weather potential multiple times a day. - @MaryKRadio
